Merge branch 'jk/diff-convfilter-test-fix'

* jk/diff-convfilter-test-fix:
  Avoid using non-portable `echo -n` in tests.
  add userdiff textconv tests
  document the diff driver textconv feature
  diff: add missing static declaration
